Volunteering for MCYHA

Volunteer Credits                          

MCYHA is run and supported entirely by volunteers, without the assistance of paid personnel.   For this reason, each hockey family is required to fulfill a certain number of volunteer credits each season.   To fill volunteer opportunities, please log in and view available opportunities in Dibs.

Please understand that it is part of our contract with Manitowoc County that we carry out all of the following duties, during and after each use of the ice, without their assistance for 2017-18.   Any failure on our part to manage these duties effectively will result in higher fees for ice in subsequent seasons.

Families of skaters in HIP are exempt from this requirement.   The hockey season is defined by WAHA as May 1st through April 30th.

For families whose oldest skater is at the Mini Mite level, the required number of hours is 10. For families whose oldest skater is at the Mite level, the required number of hours is 20.  For families whose oldest skater is at Squirt Level or above, the requirement for volunteer hours is 40 All families are required to work at least two public skate sessions.  These hours will be credited toward your total.  At the end of the season, any family not completing the above requirements will be billed $20.00 per credit not completed.

New Volunteer Policy:  In order to address some issues that have come up in the past, we are making the following changes.

  • Cancellation of Dibs shifts will be prohibited within 3 days of the start of that shift (instead of 2 days). 
  • Between 72 hours and the start of your shift, you are responsible to find your replacement. Your Team Manager or the Volunteer Coordinator can help, but it's up to you to ensure that your shift is covered.
  • If you do not show up for your shift, you will be charged $20 per credit for that shift.

The following list defines the number of hours per duty that amount to "Volunteer Credits".

For working games/tournaments (penalty box, scoreboard, score sheet, and music) concessions, and public skate:

1 Hour

Head Coach:
Complete hours are fulfilled.  Family is not exempt from public skate requirement.

Team Manager, Concessions Operations, HIP Coordinator, Head Scheduler, Registrar, Tournament Director, or other Committee Chairs:
20 Hours

Event/Tournament Committee (State Tournament, Golf Outing, etc.)

10 hours

Assistant Coach:
Head Coaches for Squirt, Pee Wee, and Bantam are authorized to share up to 40 hours  on their appointed assistants, with no more than 20 awarded to each assistant.
The Mite Head coach is authorized 30 hours to share among coaches, with no coach receiving no more than 10 hours.

Putting Up/Removing Boards, Painting Ice, Putting in/Removing Ice:

Olympia Operation, HIP Registration and Pro Shop:

Note, you must sign and return this liability waiver and return to MCIC if you resurface ice: LIABILITY WAIVER.

In order to receive credit for the work you have performed, you must claim volunteer items through Dibs.  Once the activity is complete, you must log in and complete the action.  Items outside of Dibs will be updated by an Administrator.
